3-day workshops
3-day workshops - info
Our 3-day workshops begin after after lunch on the 1st day and continue to dusk on the 3rd day. You will enjoy 2 nights accommodation (sole occupancy) at a local hotel – chosen for both its location and quality – and breakfast, dinner and pack lunch are provided.
Each day we will rise early for a dawn shoot before returning to enjoy a hearty breakfast. Of course, there is no obligation to join the morning shoot if you are not an early riser, but we strongly recommend you do, as often sunrise provides the best light of the day. After breakfast, we head out for the day. We will normally visit a further 2 or 3 different locations and, weather permitting, shoot until dusk. We then return to the hotel for our evening meal in the restaurant. Dinner is followed by a tutorial or portfolio review, along with a few social drinks and a natter…
Group size is strictly restricted to 12 photographers, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Non-participating partners are welcome – please contact us for the cost of accommodation and meals.

Dorset's Jurassic Coastline & The Isle of Purbeck - FULLY BOOKED!
Wednesday 25th to Friday 27th September 2013
This is one of our most popular workshops, and it's easy to see why. Purbeck is full of iconic locations such as Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Kimmeridge Bay, Corfe Castle, Old Harry Rocks and Swanage Old Pier. Late September is a fantastic time to photograph them, with the sun rising and setting in just the right position to light them perfectly. Atmospheric conditions can be interesting, too, and if you're lucky, you might see a mist-shrouded Corfe Castle on one of the dawn shoots.
Few photographers know Purbeck as well as Mark, so as well as receiving expert tuition from your two tutors, you can be sure that you will be in the right locations at the best time of day to make the most of them.
We will be staying at the Purbeck House Hotel in swanage, with the photography starting on Wednesday afternoon and continuing until dusk on Friday. There will be a post-processing tutorial and you will have the opportunity to have your images reviewed by Mark and Ross.
The workshop costs £395.00, with a £100.00 deposit required at the time of booking.

The Brecons, waterfalls and Welsh coast – FULLY BOOKED!
Tuesday the 8th to Thursday the 10th October 2013
We thought it was time for another foreign adventure – but this time only as far as beautiful Wales! Originally, we wanted to run a workshop concentrating solely on photographing the hills and peaks of the stunning Brecon Beacons, but with so many extraordinary waterfalls nearby and the photogenic welsh coast only an hour or so drive away, we couldn’t resist including them all in one amazing workshop. We will be located close to the market town of Crickhowell, staying for two nights at The Manor Hotel, known for its great hospitality and good locally sourced food. It is the perfect base for dawn shoots in the Brecons, where the mountain peak of Sugar Loaf, Llangorse Lake, Llangattock Escarpment and Pen y Fan (the highest mountain in Southern Britain) are all within a short drive. If we’re lucky, the mornings will be crisp and mist may hang atmospherically in the valleys. The stunning waterfalls near Ystradfellte are also on the itinerary – how could you possibly visit this area without shooting them? Weather permitting, we will head to the coast for the evening light. We’ve picked these dates specifically so that the tide is just right for visits to Dunraven Bay and Nash Point – arguably, two of the most photogenic beaches in the UK. Co-leading the workshop with us will be Adam Burton, so you will have three tutors on this course. Adam is not only one of the UK’s most talented scenic photographers, but this is also an area he knows intimately. He’s even written a book on the area! It is going to be a jam packed 3 days of photography, beginning at 11am on the first day and finishing at dusk on the last. Please note; a moderate level of fitness will be required for the steeper climbs.
The cost of the workshop includes 2 nights accommodation (sole occupancy), 3 course dinner (Tuesday and Wednesday) and breakfast and pack-lunch (Wednesday and Thursday). By running the workshop during the week, locations should be quieter, allowing participants to capture the true beauty, atmosphere and tranquility of the area. There will also be an evening tutorial on using Adobe Lightroom 4, and the opportunity to have a selection of your images critiqued by Mark, Ross and Adam. We hope you can join us…
The workshop costs £495.00, with a £150.00 deposit required at the time of booking.

Rugged north Cornwall - FULLY BOOKED!
Sunday 13th to Tuesday 15th October 2013
It is no surprise that north Cornwall’s stunning sandy bays and rugged, wild coastline appeals to scenic photographers from all over the UK and beyond. This is a beautiful location, full of photographic potential. This is one of our most popular workshops, which is why we are returning again in 2013! Participants will be staying for 2 nights at the Camelot Hotel. It has recently been refurbished, and is known for its good quality accommodation and excellent food. The hotel is just a short walk from Crooklets beach in Bude.
The north Cornish coast is popular among tourists and surfers for its clean, sandy beaches and crashing Atlantic waves. In summer, the bays are crowded, making good photography tricky. However, during autumn, the area is quiet and you can often visit a beach or cove and find yourself alone – perfect for photography. At this time of year, the conditions can be stormy and wild – ideal for producing images bursting with drama. This area is also the perfect place to capture colourful or dramatic sunsets. During the workshop, participants will visit some of the most impressive locations in the area, including the breakwater and beaches at Bude, stunning Trebarwith Strand, Widemouth Bay, the photogenic harbour at Boscastle and the beautiful bay and interesting geology at nearby Sandymouth. We will also visit Trevose lighthouse and possibly Porthcothen too. There will be a tutorial on using Adobe Lightroom, and the opportunity to have a selection of your images reviewed by Mark and Ross.
The workshop costs £425.00, with a £100.00 deposit required at the time of booking.

Wild Dartmoor - FULLY BOOKED!
Sunday 27th to Tuesday 29th October 2013
Dartmoor is one of the UK’s last remaining wildernesses. Its rugged, windswept landscape is among the most beautiful and photogenic in Europe. Hundreds of tors punctuate the moorland, and the impressive granite outcrops are fantastically photogenic – particularly in the warm morning and evening light of dawn and dusk. Dartmoor is home to a wealth of Bronze and Iron Age remnants, mysterious stone crosses and hut circles. You will have the opportunity to photograph some of Dartmoor’s most photogenic landmarks, including Brentor church and Bowerman’s Nose. We will visit some of its most impressive and attractive tors – like Combstone and Saddle tor - which offer stunning, far reaching views over the moors. Being autumn, Dartmoor’s wooded valleys will be changing colour, creating yet more photographic potential and, just a short walk from the hotel, is Wistman’s Wood – a spooky and unique stunted oak woodland. We will also photograph the boulder strewn rivers and streams that help make Dartmoor one of the UK’s best loved National Parks...
Participants will be staying at the famous Two Bridges Hotel for 2 nights, each enjoying the comfort of a double room (single occupancy). Breakfast, lunch and dinner are also provided. The Two Bridges ‘Tors restaurant’ is renowned in the South West for quality food and this well appointed hotel is full of character and history. The hotel is situated in the very heart of the moors and is the perfect base for photography. Its huge log fires and large leather armchairs provide the perfect place to relax and chat after a good day’s photography. During the workshop, there will also be a tutorial on using Adobe Lightroom and the opportunity to have your portfolio reviewed.
The workshop costs £425.00, with a £100.00 deposit required at the time of booking.

West Cornwall - FULLY BOOKED!
Sunday 23rd to Tuesday 25th February 2014
West Cornwall is one of the most photogenic regions in the South West of England. Arguably, this is our favourite workshop and during the 2½ days of photography we will visit a number of Cornwall’s most iconic landmarks, including St Michael’s Mount, the tin mines at Botallack Head and Godrevy Island. We will also photograph Mullion Cove, the stunning sandy bay at Porthcurno and visit Porth Nanvan – one of the most photogenic beaches in England. During late winter, the light can be stunning and the weather dramatic. The days are still long enough to visit several locations each day, yet short enough to ensure we’re back at the hotel after sunset in time to eat, relax and share a drink or two…
Participants will be staying at the fantastic Mount Haven Hotel in Marazion for 2 nights. The hotel is widely known for the quality of its food. It has been awarded two AA Rosettes and was named one of the 9 Best Secret Hotels in the WORLD! The Mount Haven, overlooking St Michael’s Mount, is the perfect location to be based while photographing the area. 3 course evening meal (Sunday and Monday) and breakfast and pack lunch (Monday and Tuesday) are also provided in the cost.
The workshop costs £425.00, with a £100.00 deposit required at the time of booking.

The Lake District - FULLY BOOKED!
Sunday 19th to Tuesday 21st October 2014
‘The Lakes’ are renowned for their stunning beauty. This area is a real wonder of nature – a haven for landscape photography. Impressive peaks rise grandly, reflected in the still waters of the lakes below. Undulating hills are lushly decorated with every shade of green. During October, the colours of autumn add their own charm, warmth and texture to the fabric of the fells.
With only a limited knowledge of the area ourselves, it would be impossible for us to confidently run a workshop in the Lake District without a helping hand. Therefore, co-leading this workshop is Adam Burton – one of the UK leading professional photographers. He knows the area intimately and – thanks to his experience, knowledge and guidance – we will visit many of the most photogenic spots in the area during this 2½ day workshop. Not only will his knowledge of the area be indispensable, but having a third leader on the workshop ensures an almost unrivalled level of expertise available to participants. With a maximum group size of 12, plenty of individual attention is guaranteed!
The cost of the workshop includes two nights accommodation at the magnificent Keswick Hotel – known for its fine food and hospitality. Also included in the price is 3 course dinner (Sunday & Monday) and a Cumbrian breakfast and pack-lunch ( Monday & Tuesday). The hotel could hardly be in a better position for exploring The Lakes. Among the locations we will visit during the workshop are Derwent Water, Catbells, Blea Tarn, Langdale Valley and beautiful Buttermere. On still mornings, the lakes offer mirror like reflections of the surrounding landscape and, at this time of year, the landscape promises to be golden and colourful.
By running the workshop during the week, locations should be quieter, allowing photographers to capture the true beauty, atmosphere and tranquillity of the area. There will also be an evening tutorial on using Adobe Lightroom 4, and the opportunity to have a selection of your images critiqued by Mark, Ross and Adam. We really hope you can join us…
