3-day workshops

3-day workshops - info
Our 3-day workshops begin after after lunch on the 1st day and continue to dusk on the 3rd day. You will enjoy 2nights accommodation (sole occupancy) at a local hotel – chosen for both its location and quality – and breakfast, dinner and pack lunch are provided.

Each day we will rise early for a dawn shoot before returning to enjoy a hearty breakfast. Of course, there is no obligation to join the morning shoot if you are not an early riser, but we strongly recommend you do, as often sunrise provides the best light of the day. After breakfast, we head out for the day. We will normally visit a further 2 or 3 different locations and, weather permitting, shoot until dusk. We then return to the hotel for our evening meal in the restaurant. Dinner is followed by a tutorial or portfolio review, along with a few social drinks and a natter…

Group size is strictly restricted to 12 photographers, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Non-participating partners are welcome – please contact us for the cost of accommodation and meals.

Rugged north Cornwall - FULLY BOOKED!
Sunday 4th to Tuesday 6th March 2012

It is no surprise that north Cornwall’s stunning sandy bays and rugged, wild coastline appeals to scenic photographers from all over the UK and beyond. This is a beautiful location, full of photographic potential. This is one of our most popular workshops, which is why we are returning again in 2012! Participants will be staying for 2 nights at the Camelot Hotel – known for its high quality accommodation and good food. The hotel is just a short walk from Crooklets beach in Bude.

The north coast is a popular among tourists and surfers for its clean, sandy beaches and crashing Atlantic waves. In summer, the bays are crowded, making good photography tricky. However, during late winter and early spring, the area is quiet and you can often visit a beach or cove and be alone – perfect for photography. At this time of year, the conditions can be stormy and wild – ideal for producing images bursting with drama – or calm with colourful sunrises and sunsets. During the workshop, participants will visit some of the most impressive locations in the area, including the breakwater and beaches at Bude, stunning Trebarwith Strand, Widemouth Bay, the photogenic harbour at Boscastle and the beautiful bay and interesting geology at nearby Sandymouth. There will also a tutorial on using Adobe Lightroom, and the opportunity to have a selection of your images reviewed by Mark and Ross.

The workshop costs £395.00, with a £100.00 deposit required at the time of booking.

Dorset's Jurassic Coastline & The Isle of Purbeck - FULLY BOOKED!
Sunday 30th September to Tuesday 2nd October 2012

Early autumn is an ideal time for photography in Purbeck. Without wishing to tempt fate, the weather is often good, and the sun sets over the sea for wonderful sunset shots. Not only that, but Purbeck's most famous landmarks are at their best at this time of year, with the setting sun lighting up Durdle Door, and Corfe Castle often shrouded in early morning mist. Other iconic locations we plan to visit during the workshop include Old Harry rocks, Kimmeridge Bay, Lulworth Cove and Swanage Bay.

Few photographers know Dorset as well as Mark, so as well as receiving expert tuition from your two tutors, you can be sure that you will be in the right locations at the best time of day to make the most of them.

We will be staying at the Purbeck House Hotel in Swanage www.purbeckhousehotel.co.uk with the photography starting on Sunday afternoon and continuing until dusk on Tuesday. There will a tutorial on using Lightroom 3 or Exposure Blending and you will have the opportunity to have your images reviewed by Mark and Ross.

The workshop costs £395.00, with a £100.00 deposit required at the time of booking.

The Lake District - FULLY BOOKED!
Sunday 14th to Tuesday 16th October 2012

When we first made the decision to run a workshop outside our home turf of the South West, the Lake District was the obvious choice! ‘The Lakes’ are renowned for their stunning beauty. This area is a real wonder of nature – a haven for landscape photography. . Impressive peaks rise grandly, reflected in the still waters of the lakes below. Undulating hills are lushly decorated with every shade of green. During October, the colours of autumn add their own charm, warmth and texture to the fabric of the fells.

With only a limited knowledge of the area ourselves, it would be impossible for us to confidently run a workshop in the Lake District without a helping hand. Therefore, co-leading this workshop is Adam Burton – one of the UK leading professional photographers. He knows the area intimately and – thanks to his experience, knowledge and guidance – we will visit many of the most photogenic spots in the area during this 2½ day workshop. Not only will his knowledge of the area be indispensable, but having a third leader on the workshop ensures an almost unrivalled level of expertise available to participants. With a maximum group size of 12, plenty of individual attention is guaranteed!

The cost of the workshop includes two nights accommodation at the magnificent Keswick Hotel – known for its fine food and hospitality. Also included in the price is 3 course dinner (Wednesday & Thursday night) and a Cumbrian breakfast and pack-lunch (on the Thursday & Friday). The hotel could hardly be in a better position for exploring The Lakes. Among the locations we will visit during the workshop are Derwent Water, Catbells, Blea Tarn, Langdale Valley and beautiful Buttermere. On still mornings, the lakes offer mirror like reflections of the surrounding landscape and, at this time of year, the landscape promises to be golden and colourful.
By running the workshop during the week, locations should be quieter, allowing photographers to capture the true beauty, atmosphere and tranquillity of the area. There will also be an evening tutorial on using Adobe Lightroom, and the opportunity to have a selection of your images critiqued by Mark, Ross and Adam. We really hope you can join us…

The workshop costs £450.00, with a £150.00 deposit required at the time of booking.

Autumnal New Forest - Just 1 place left!
Wednesday October 31st - Friday November 2nd

The New Forest, in Hampshire, is Britain's smallest National Park, but its 150 square miles boasts an amazingly varied landscape - different types of woodland, open heathland, rivers, ponds and streams. There is even a stretch of coastline within its boundaries.

It is, of course, famous for its autumn colours and we will be visiting at the best time of year to capture the golden foliage, with the colours usually at their peak in the last week of October and first week of November. If we’re lucky, there may also be some low-lying mist in the valleys, to add atmosphere and a touch of romance.

As well as visiting some of the well-known locations such as Bolderwood, Rhinefield, and Bratley, we will also use our local knowledge to take you to some of the area’s ‘hidden gems’ - places which might otherwise be overlooked. The workshop will also include an evening tutorial and the opportunity to have your pictures reviewed by Mark and Ross.

We will be staying for two nights at the Burley Manor Hotel, set in landscaped gardens just outside the picturesque village of Burley, but easily accessed from the A31.

The workshop costs £395.00, with a £100.00 deposit required at the time of booking.

West Cornwall - New workshop for 2013
Sunday 17th to Tuesday 19th February 2013

West Cornwall is one of the most photogenic regions in the South West of England. Arguably, this is our favourite workshop and during the 2½ days of photography we will visit a number of Cornwall’s most iconic landmarks, including St Michael’s Mount, the tin mines at Botallack Head and Godrevy Island. We will also photograph Mullion Cove, the stunning sandy bay at Porthcurno and visit Porth Nanvan – one of the most photogenic beaches in England due its wonderful geology. During late winter, the light can be stunning and the weather dramatic. The days are still long enough to visit several locations each day, yet short enough to ensure we’re back at the hotel after sunset in time to eat, relax and share a drink or two…

Participants will be staying at the fantastic Mount Haven Hotel in Marazion for 2 nights. The hotel is widely known for the quality of its food. It has been awarded two AA Rosettes and was recently named one of the 9 Best Secret Hotels in the WORLD! The Mount Haven, overlooking St Michael’s Mount, is the perfect location to be based while photographing the area. Breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal are also provided both days.

The workshop costs £425.00, with a £100.00 deposit required at the time of booking

Jersey - One place re-available!
Monday 11th to Wednesday 13th March 2013

Dawn 2 Dusk Photography going overseas… surely not? Mark and Ross would never leave the comfort of their beloved Dorset and Cornish coastline… would they? Well, yes they are! We are pleased to announce our eagerly anticipated Jersey workshop.

Jersey in arguably the most beautiful of all the Channel Islands. Located around 100 miles south of mainland Britain, Jersey is the most southerly island of the British Isles. Despite only being 9 miles by 5 miles in size, Jersey possesses a rich and varied landscape, which sends visitors into sensory overload! Boasting a breathtaking coastline, and with its unique blend of British and French influences, Jersey really is a very special island. Its rural environment consists largely of open fields, woodland, cliffs and stunning headlands. Covering a compact 45 square miles, few places have so many photogenic locations crammed into such a small area. Over 400miles of road cover the island, ensuring even its remotest corners are easily accessible for photography. During this 3 day workshop, we will visit some of Jersey’s most photogenic locations, including iconic La Cobriere lighthouse, the curious Victorian Havre des Pas bathing pool, the beautiful sandy bay at Portelet, sweeping St Aubin's Bay, St Catherines breakwater, and the beautiful sandy beach and caves at Plemont. With only a limited knowledge of the area ourselves, it would be difficult for us to confidently run a Jersey workshop without a helping hand. Therefore, we will be assisted by resident photographers, to ensure we are always in the right place depending on the tide, weather and light. The dates have been selected to ensure high tide (the best time for photography on the island) coincides with sunrise and sunset.

The cost of the workshop includes two nights accommodation at the luxurious 4 Star Green Hills Hotel – known for its superb food, comfort and hospitality. Included in the price is 3 course dinner (Monday and Tuesday night) breakfast and lunch (Tuesday and Wednesday). The hotel could hardly be in a better position for exploring the island.

By running the workshop during the week, locations should be quieter, allowing photographers to capture the beauty, atmosphere and tranquillity of the island. It also allows participants time to arrive the weekend beforehand should they wish, or maybe stay a few extra nights afterwards. During the workshop, there will also be an evening tutorial on printing (or using Adobe Lightroom) and the opportunity to have a selection of your images critiqued by Mark and Ross. We really hope you can join us…

Wild Dartmoor - New workshop for 2013!
Sunday 27th to Tuesday 29th October 2013

Dartmoor is one of the UK’s last remaining wildernesses. Its rugged, windswept landscape is among the most beautiful and photogenic in Europe. Hundreds of tors punctuate the moorland, and the impressive granite outcrops are fantastically photogenic – particularly in the warm morning and evening light of dawn and dusk. Dartmoor is home to a wealth of Bronze and Iron Age remnants, mysterious stone crosses and hut circles. You will have the opportunity to photograph some of Dartmoor’s most photogenic landmarks, including Brentor church and Bowerman’s Nose. We will visit some of its most impressive and attractive tors – like Combstone and Saddle tor - which offer stunning, far reaching views over the moors. Being autumn, Dartmoor’s wooded valleys will be changing colour, creating yet more photographic potential and, just a short walk from the hotel, is Wistman’s Wood – a spooky and unique stunted oak woodland. We will also photograph the boulder strewn rivers and streams that help make Dartmoor one of the UK’s best loved National Parks...

Participants will be staying at the famous Two Bridges Hotel for 2 nights, each enjoying the comfort of a double room (single occupancy). Breakfast, lunch and dinner are also provided. The Two Bridges ‘Tors restaurant’ is renowned in the South West for quality food and this well appointed hotel is full of character and history. The hotel is situated in the very heart of the moors and is the perfect base for photography. Its huge log fires and large leather armchairs provide the perfect place to relax and chat after a good day’s photography. During the workshop, there will also be a tutorial on using Adobe Lightroom and the opportunity to have your portfolio reviewed.

The workshop costs £425.00, with a £100.00 deposit required at the time of booking.
