West Cornwall – or Penwith as it is also known – is one of the most photogenic regions in the South West of England. On this 1-day workshop, we will focus on shooting stunning cliff top vistas. The wild and imposing Cornish scenery is perfectly suited to being photographed from elevated viewpoints. With a wide-angle lens, you can capture far-reaching vistas of this rugged coastline and its mining heritage.
This is Poldark country and during the day we will visit The Crowns Engine houses at Botallack – a great location to practice long exposure photography and the World renowned Land’s End coastline. In early May, the cliff tops look vibrant and can be carpeted with spring flowers – particularly thrift. These ‘sea pinks’ can create ideal foreground interest and appear to glow if bathed in warm, evening sunlight. If the thrift is flowering, we will be sure to visit Godrevy, as the flowers provide a colourful foreground in cliff-top views of the lighthouse.
This workshop will provide a great opportunity to hone your compositional skills under the guidance of two leading professional landscape photographers – Mark Bauer and Ross Hoddinott. We will also be working extensively on using landscape photography filters – polarisers, graduated Neutral Density filters and Little, Big and Super Stoppers. You will have access to LEE Filters systems and filters throughout the day – so if you have not used filters previously, this really is a great opportunity to try them for yourself under our expert guidance.
We will meet at 11.30am for a quick briefing followed by lunch (included in the cost), before visiting a minimum of three coastal cliff-top locations. You can’t visit Cornwall without devouring a Cornish pasty, so before our sunset shoot, we will stop for a pasty and drink (again included in the cost). With sunset approaching 9pm in early May, it promises to be a long, busy and productive day’s photography.
For this workshop, we are limiting the group size to just eight people to ensure viewpoints don’t feel too crowded and to guarantee plenty of individual attention and tuition. And we will also send you away with a signed copy of ‘From Dawn to Dusk – Mastering the Light in Landscape Photography’. We hope you can join us…
