Wild Dartmoor - Mono & Infrared Special

Dartmoor is one of the UK’s last remaining wildernesses. Its rugged, windswept landscape is among the most beautiful and photogenic in Europe. Hundreds of tors punctuate the moorland, and the impressive granite outcrops are fantastically photogenic. Although late spring can be a challenging time of year for landscape photographers, due to the length of the day and harsh daytime light, verdant foliage and contrast are popular ingredients for black and white and infrared photography. In truth, late spring can be a highly productive time of year for landscape photography. And few areas of the UK are better suited to dramatic mono images than Dartmoor's wild and windswept landscape.

This National Park is home to a wealth of Bronze and Iron Age remnants, mysterious stone crosses, and hut circles. During this 3-day workshop, you will have the opportunity to photograph some of Dartmoor’s most photogenic viewpoints, including Brentor church, Bowerman’s Nose, and Great Staple Tor, which all offer stunning, far reaching views over the moors. Isolated and windsept hawthorn trees, deserted farmhouses, wooded valleys, and boulder strewn rivers help make the moors a delight for infrared photographers. We’ve planned this workshop for when foliage is fresh and vibrant - perfectly suited to infrared. Regardless of whether you are an experienced or inexperienced infrared photographer, you will enjoy this 3-day tour of Dartmoor. 

During this workshop, we will take you on a complete photographic journey: from visualing scenes suited to mono and infrared photography, infrared technique, composition and exposure, through to editing files ready for printing or publication. If you don't already have a converted IR camera or IR filter, we can provide guidance prior to the workshop, or we have a limited number of IR cameras and filters that you can use during the workshop. 

Participants will be staying at the renowned and cosy Two Bridges Hotel for two nights (single occupancy). The Two Bridges ‘Tors restaurant’ is renowned in the South West for quality food and this well appointed hotel is full of character and history. The hotel is situated at the very heart of the moors and is the perfect base for photography. Due to the early starts and late finishes, we will incoprorate some downtime during the day for you to rest or relax. We will dine in the restaurant during the day and have a packed lunch to eat on location each evening to ensure we can enjoy the best conditions. 

With group size restricted to 8 people, a large amount of individual, bespoke tuition is guaranteed. You will also benefit from the differing perspective of two leading professional photographers on this workshop, Mark Bauer and Ross Hoddinott.
