Of course, London has changed a bit since the days of Samuel Johnson but it remains one of the great cities of the world. Vibrant and brash but also cool and cultured, where baroque architecture rubs shoulders with the modernist glass and steel of the City, London is a true melting pot of architectural style with skyscrapers towering over bombed out churches and ancient lanes and alleys snaking their way past the edifices of modern office blocks.

The Thames, the ancient and great central artery to London still plays a vital role in the life of London and from its shores and bridges the views can be awe inspiring. The South Bank provides views of the city, the north side of the Thames views of More London and the Shard. From Tower Bridge there are stunning views along the Thames at both sunrise and sunset and Waterloo bridge provides both views of the city, The London Eye and Parliament.

Whether your interest lies in the big city views, architecture, people or abstracts or you just want to wander the streets and photograph whatever you stumble upon just around the next corner, London is the city for you.

Staying in a perfectly located hotel on the shores of the Thames by Tower Bridge, just a stone’s throw from many great locations, this workshop will explore the great views of London and its enthralling mix of architectural styles. Shooting from sunrise to sunset we will utilise the low winter sun to make the most of quirky angles, fleeting shadows, transient moments, and of course the larger classic views along the Thames.

Much of the exploring of locations will be done on foot with the occasional use of public transport, therefore a more light weight approach to shooting will be encouraged.

The group size is limited to just 8 on this tour, to help ensure that viewpoints don’t get too crowded and also guarantee plenty of individual tuition. Although it will not be possible for us to run formal tutorials on this trip, there will be plenty of opportunity for informal image reviews and processing tips and tricks over a drink or two in the evenings.
