Winter Sun in the Algarve

If you feel in need of some winter sun, why not join us in the Algarve next January for an unforgettable photography adventure on Portugal’s spectacular Algarve coast? Based in the charming town of Lagos, this four-night workshop is designed to help you make the most of capturing some of Europe’s most spectacular coastal landscapes. We will meet for introductions and a relaxed dinner on the first day, and there will then be 3 full days of photography before we finish after the dawn shoot on the fifth day.

Golden cliffs, sea-carved arches, secluded coves, fishing villages and sweeping Atlantic vistas make the Algarve a dream location for lovers of coastal photography. From sunrise over the limestone stacks of Ponta da Piedade to golden light illuminating rugged headlands and turquoise waters, we’ll explore a variety of locations, making the most of the dramatic winter light.

We will be visiting out of season, so the locations will be quiet, but the weather should still be mild enough for us to spend most of the day in the field benefiting from the low winter sun. The softer winter light and longer periods around sunrise and sunset are ideal for landscape photography, often bringing rich colour, texture and atmosphere to the coastline. With fewer visitors around, we’ll be able to take our time composing images and experimenting with different techniques.

We will be based in the Marina Rio Hotel in Lagos, carefully chosen for being within easy reach of all our key locations and also conveniently located for local restaurants and bars for relaxing during our downtime. For this workshop you will benefit from the knowledge and experience of 3 tutors: renowned Portuguese photographer Paulo Silva, whose local knowledge is unrivalled, as well as Mark Bauer and Ross Hoddinott, 2 of the UK's leading landscape photographers. And with 3 tutors and a maximum group size of just 8, you are guaranteed as much individual attention as you need.
