Capture 2 Print - Rugged North Cornwall

£850.00 | 19th - 21st February, 2023 | Last Places

Home to crashing Atlantic waves, golden sandy bays and steep, dramatic cliffs, the rugged north Cornish coastline is among the most picturesque in Europe and during this 3-day workshop we will visit some of its most photogenic gems.

During the workshop, you will be under the expert guidance of two of the UK's best known landscape photographers (and local residents) – Adrian Beasley and Ross Hoddinott. During the workshop, we will photograph the extensive golden sands of Sandymouth Bay, the rocky ledges of Crackington Haven and also the stunning elevated view of Boscastle – one of Cornwall’s best-known and picturesque harbours. The north Cornish coast is impressive, wild and imposing. No visit to the area would be complete without visiting Trevose Head to photograph the lighthouse perched dramatically on the cliff edge – this is a great location to practice long exposure photography. Bedruthan Steps, St Nectan’s Glen and Bude Sea Pool are also on the agenda during this workshop.

This is a great workshop to hone your filtration skills and we will work extensively on using landscape photography filters during the course – polarisers, graduated Neutral Density filters and Little, Big and Super Stoppers. You will have access to LEE Filter systems and filters throughout the course – so if you have not used filters previously, this really is a great opportunity to try them for yourself under our expert guidance.

The charming and elegent Falcon Hotel will be our base during this workshop. The Falcon is the oldest coaching hotel in North Cornwall and is renowned for its warm welcome and good food. It overlooks Bude Canal and is only a short walk to Bude's stunning sandy beaches. The hotel boasts superb conference facilities, making it an ideal base for our hugely popular Capture 2 Print format. Accommodation (sole occupancy) and dinner (Sunday and Monday), breakfast (Monday and Tuesday) and lunch (Monday and Tuesday) is provided in the cost of the workshop.

Taking a picture is just the beginning, though – a photograph doesn’t come alive until it is expertly processed, printed and presented. During this workshop, we will take you on a complete photographic journey: from seeing the shot, composing and capturing it, through to processing the file and ultimately producing a high-quality print. After two days of photographing North Cornwall's finest scenery, day three will be dedicated entirely to processing and printing. After an early breakfast, we will head to the classroom, where Adobe certified expert Adrian Beasley will guide you to get the best out of your raw files and help you to produce stunning prints of your freshly captured Cornish images. Adrian is quite simply one of the best in the business - not only a superb photographer, but a renowned ‘digital darkroom’ worker. With his friendly, approachable manner, he will help you get to grips with some of the key issues involved in developing and printing your images, including colour management, sharpening and paper choice. After a buffet lunch, you will begin printing your photographs and each participant will print and take home three high-quality A3 prints, printed on a choice of fine-art papers.

For this workshop, we are limiting the group size to just eight participants to ensure viewpoints don’t feel crowded. With a small maximum group size, a large amount of individual, bespoke tuition is guaranteed and you will benefit from the differing perspective of two professionals. By the end of the workshop you should have an understanding of the complete photographic workflow and be able to produce good quality prints at home. You will return home with a complete set of notes and a workbook, so that you can continue to develop your skills. We hope you can join us…

*Participants should bring their own computer loaded with their editor of choice.

Please note: Adrian will demonstrate techniques using Lightroom but other editors can be accommodated.
