The New Forest is one of the UK’s smallest national parks, but boasts an incredibly varied landscape within its boundaries: coniferous woodland, broadleaved woodland, open heathland, ponds, streams and even a stretch of coastline. There are also the famous New Forest ponies, which roam freely around the forest and will often pose obligingly for a photo!
It is, of course, famous for its autumn colours: in a good year, the trees positively glow with golds, yellows and reds, complemented by the orange bracken on the forest floor below. We used to run this workshop at the beginning of November, but in recent years, colours have tended to peak in the middle of the month. Hopefully the timing of the workshop will coincide with the best colour and conditions in the forest. As well as visiting classic locations such as Rhinefield and Bolderwood, we will also take you to some of the area’s quieter, but no less impressive corners.
Many people find woodland photography challenging, but there will be a thorough briefing on relevant techniques before we head out with our cameras as well as a guide to the locations we intend to visit, in order to prepare you for the workshop ahead. Your tutors, Mark Bauer and Ross Hoddinott, will be on hand throughout the workshop to help you with compositions and any technical questions. Ross is also a rewnowned macro expert and the New Forest is home to a variety of fungi, which he will be able to help you locate and shoot striking close ups of.
For this workshop, we will be based in the Crown Hotel in Lyndhurst, a historic coaching inn full of character and well-placed for easy access to our main viewpoints. All meals are included in the cost of the workshop and with a group size of just 8 people, but 2 tutors, you are guarented plenty of attention and bespoke guidance and feedback while in the field. For comfort and convenience, transport is via car sharing. We hope you can join us...
