Capture to Print - Wild Dartmoor
£750.00 | 09th - 11th November, 2022 | Fully BookedJoin the Waiting List
During this workshop, we will take you on a complete photographic journey: from seeing the shot, composing and capturing it, through to processing the file and ultimately producing a high-quality print.
The first two days will be spent in the field, concentrating on in-camera skills, photographing the stunning natural beauty of Dartmoor - one of the UK’s last remaining wildernesses. Its rugged, windswept landscape is among the most beautiful and photogenic in Europe. Hundreds of tors punctuate the moorland, and the impressive granite outcrops are fantastically photogenic – particularly in the warm morning and evening light of dawn and dusk.
This National Park is home to a wealth of Bronze and Iron Age remnants, mysterious stone crosses and hut circles. During this 3-day workshop, you will have the opportunity to photograph some of Dartmoor’s most photogenic viewpoints, including Brentor church, Bowerman’s Nose, and Great Staple Tor, which all offer stunning, far reaching views over the moors. During early November, Dartmoor’s wooded valleys will be beautifully autumnal, creating yet more photographic potential. Therefore, we also plan to take you to Shaugh Prior – one of Dartmoor’s the most attractive boulder strewn rivers. It promises to be a busy and productive couple of days photography…
Participants will be staying at the famous and cosy Two Bridges Hotel for two nights (single occupancy). The Two Bridges ‘Tors restaurant’ is renowned in the South West for quality food and this well appointed hotel is full of character and history. The hotel is situated in the very heart of the moors and is the perfect base for photography. Its huge log fires and large leather armchairs provide the perfect place to relax and chat after a good day’s photography. Three course dinner and packed-lunch (Wednesday & Thursday) and a hearty Devonian breakfast (Thursday & Friday) are provided in the cost. With group size restricted to 10 people, a large amount of individual, bespoke tuition is guaranteed. You will also benefit from the differing perspective of two leading professional photographers on this workshop, Mark Bauer and Ross Hoddinott.
Day three will be dedicated entirely to processing and printing. After an early breakfast, we will head to the classroom, where Adobe certified expert Adrian Beasley will guide you to get the best out of your raw files and help you to produce stunning prints of your freshly captured Dartmoor images. Adrian is quite simply, one of the best in the business - not only a superb photographer, but a renowned ‘digital darkroom’ worker. With his friendly, approachable manner, he will help you get to grips with some of the key issues involved in developing and printing your images, including colour management, sharpening and paper choice. After a buffet lunch, you will begin printing your photographs and each participant will print and take home three high-quality A3 prints, printed on a choice of fine-art papers.
By the end of the workshop you should have an understanding of the complete photographic workflow and be able to produce good quality prints at home. You will return home with a complete set of notes and a workbook, so that you can continue to develop your skills. We hope you can join us…
*Participants must bring their own computer loaded with their editor of choice
Please note: Adrian will demonstrate techniques using Lightroom but other editors can be accommodated.
