If you suffer from the winter blues, why not join us in Valencia next January, where not only will you enjoy some mild, sunny weather, but you’ll also have the chance to photograph some of the most extraordinary architecture in Europe?
Probably the most striking part of Valencia is the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of Arts and Sciences), a cultural and architectural complex set in a huge landscaped park. Completed in 2009 at a cost of around €1 billion, it’s one of the 12 ‘Treasures of Spain’ and home to some spectacular futuristic buildings, made even more photogenic by the water features which surround them, creating mirror-like reflections.
For this 3-day, 4-night workshop we’ll be based in the Barcelo Valencia, just a stone’s throw from the City of Arts and Sciences, allowing us easy access for dawn and dusk shoots, when the locations are at their quietest. For our shoots here, we’ll not only capture the big vistas, but also work on architectural details and abstracts.
To provide a complete contrast of architectural styles, we’ll also spend a day in the old town, home to historic buildings such as the Mercado Central, one of Europe’s largest indoor markets and built in the Venetian Art Nouveau style, as well as the Cathedral and the 15th century Silk Exchange, a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On this workshop, we'll meet on the first evening for introductions and a relaxed meal (included) and there will then be 3 full days of photography. Accommodation, breakfasts, evening meals, transport during the workshop, and entry fees to buildings are all included. The group size is strictly limited to 8 participants to allow enough space on location for everyone to get the shots they want.
Your tutors for this workshop are Mark Banks and Mark Bauer, both highly regarded professional photographers and experienced tutors. They will be on hand to offer advice on all aspects of photographing the local buildings and will make sure that you are always in the right place to make the most of the conditions. And with two tutors looking after 8 photographers, you’re guaranteed a high level of individual attention. We hope you can join us…
*Please note that flights are not included in the cost of this workshop, but after booking, we will contact you with a details of recommended flights. Please do not book flights until we advise you to do so.
**To get the most out of photographing the stunning modern architecture, you'll ideally have an ultra-wide lens of 14mm (or even slightly wider) on full-frame, or equivalent. If you don't own a lens this wide, consider renting one for a few days.
